Amelia Shabir
Hi everyone! I’m Amelia, a 3rd year medical student, and I am excited to run for the position of Co-Chair for the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Society. With my experience in medical education, event organisation, and leadership, I am eager to contribute to the society and help expand its impact.
Throughout medical school, I have developed a strong interest in gastroenterology, having completed several gastro placements that have deepened my knowledge and appreciation for the specialty. My passion for teaching has also led me to deliver gastro lectures to second-year students as part of MedEd, an experience that has reinforced my commitment to making complex topics more accessible for students at all levels.
Beyond academics, I have been actively involved in leadership and event planning. As a Playteam leader, I have coordinated a team of volunteers, strengthening my skills in organization, teamwork, and communication. I have also helped organise conferences while serving on various subcommittees, and if elected, I would love to bring this experience to the Gastro Hep Soc by considering running a gastro related conference. This would provide students with valuable insights into the field, networking opportunities, and exposure to exciting developments in gastroenterology and hepatology.
I am friendly, approachable, and committed to making the society engaging and educational for everyone. If elected, I would work hard to expand opportunities for students interested in gastroenterology through high-quality teaching, inspiring events, and exciting new initiatives.
