Paediatrics: Academic Officer

Hi everyone!! My name is Angie and I'm running to be your academic officer next year.

I have had the pleasure of experiencing the inner-workings within Paediatrics society this year and would love to get more involved in helping run and expand the society’s academic initiatives, providing valuable opportunities for students to engage with the world of paediatrics.

As academic officer, I aim to:

Continue what Paediatrics Society offers:

  • High-yield and engaging lecture series for our fifth and final years, from older years and doctors alike so that our students are well prepared for exams and clinical practice.
  • Collaboration with ICOGS, Psych and GP to deliver a well-structured revision course covering key paediatric topics for medical students.

Introduce new opportunities:

  • Mentorship scheme where final years can provide guidance and support to younger students, especially in earlier clinical years. This could include revision sessions, clinical skills practice, and general career advice in paediatrics.
  • Teaching Series with Paediatric Doctors. These would be regular teaching series from doctors from various paediatric subspecialties such as neonatal medicine, mental health, emergency medicine, paediatric surgery, and more! These sessions will be open to all year groups, giving students exposure to different career paths, case-based discussions, and practical tips for clinical placements and exams.

I would love the opportunity to continue to make Paediatrics Society opportunities as accessible and beneficial as possible for all students with an interest in such a unique and rewarding specialty.

Thank you for considering me for academic officer !! :))
