Coding (ICSM): Secretary

Hi I’m Aidan – a fourth year medic.

It’s been a great pleasure this year to work as Co-Chair this year for ICSM Coding.

I've been focused this year on building links with faculty to incorporate more coding and machine learning into the medical curriculum, as well as with other societies. I have also tried to vouch for creating more social opportunities for our members. I’ve also really enjoyed helping to organise our second and highly successful ICSM Coding Conference last November.

Coding is an extremely important gateway skill in Medicine, and the medical and biomedical courses don't emphasise its due importance, so our society is more important than ever to equip our members with key skills.

I have a good amount of coding experience which I feel puts me in a good position to help steer the society. I’ve worked on multiple AI, machine learning and mathematical modelling projects in computational cardiology through UROPs and my BSc, and I have a large interest in maths and stats.

My primary goals as secretary would be to:

  • Continue to advise the committee for a smooth transition from last year
  • Continue to organise amazing conferences, events and collaborations with other ICSM and external societies.
  • Work closely with other committee members to maintain and build strong sponsorship and collaborative links to benefit our members.
  • Play pivotal roles in the organisation and logistics of events.
  • Keep our members informed of great opportunities through regular newsletters.
  • Be a friendly point of contact for our members.
