Bio Engineering: Academic & Technical Events Coordinator

Hey everyone. I’m Joe, a second-year Biomedical Engineering student, and I’m running for Academic Events Coordinator.

Throughout my studies, I’ve noticed that many of us struggle with self-learning technical skills. For example, I forgot quite a bit of SolidWorks and had to relearn it while working on the Year 2 DAPP project to build a CAD model. At the same time, many essential skills, such as LaTeX formatting and academic writing, aren’t fully covered in our curriculum. While self-learning is always a good option, having structured opportunities to develop and revisit these skills would make the process more efficient and accessible.

If elected, I will work closely with representatives and faculty to organize educational workshops that reinforce important skills, while ensuring these sessions are scheduled as effectively as possible to fit within students' timetables. My goal is to provide students with additional learning opportunities—whether to strengthen essential skills or explore new ones for further expertise.

Beyond workshops, I also hope to increase student participation in academic extracurriculars by improving access to information about competitions, conferences, and research opportunities, while supporting events that help students prepare for them——HealthHack, for example. By doing so, I hope to help students gain valuable experience, expand their networks, and enhance their prospects.

Above all, I want to contribute to a supportive and engaging academic environment, where we can develop both technical and practical skills together. I’d truly appreciate your support—let’s work together to enhance our academic experience!
