Acute Care Specialities : Emergency Medicine Lead

Hi! My name is Nilani, and I would love to be your emergency medicine lead for Acute Care Specialties Society!

I am excited to contribute my passion and provide students with comprehensive exposure to the fast-paced and critical world of acute care. I initially gained valuable experience during my previous placements in A&E, ICU and acute medicine. Furthermore, over the last year, I have participated in a trauma placement programme, where I shadow on-call anaesthetists in the major trauma centre at St Mary's Hospital. Through these experiences, I have developed a deep appreciation for the rewards and demands of this field and gained a strong understanding of the skills and mindset required. Moreover, my previous roles in other societies previously, such as treasurer, secretary, sponsorship officer and liaison officer, have equipped me with valuable organisation, teamwork and collaboration skills, allowing me to contribute to the team and support my fellow committee members when required to ensure smooth coordination and success across the society.

My aims:

  • Arrange insightful talks and panel discussions with professionals from acute care specialties, eg emergency medicine, trauma, acute care etc, to provide valuable insights into their career
  • Organise interactive and practical workshops where students can learn and practise key clinical skills essential for acute care environments
  • Liaise and collaborate with other societies to expand our outreach, engage a wider audience, and provide more diverse learning opportunities for students.

Thank you for reading my manifesto! I hope you will consider me as your future emergency medicine lead!
