As a second-year medical student with a deep interest in infectious diseases, I am running for the position of infectious diseases early year co-ordinator. Infectious diseases play a significant role in global health clearly shown by the COVID pandemic, yet they are underrepresented in our curriculum. In first and second year there is a very limited exposure to the complexities of these diseases and insufficient education about their prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. This leads to a limited awareness about the possibility of specializing in infectious diseases. Without proper exposure, many students are unaware of the career opportunities in this vital field.
If elected, I will advocate for a more comprehensive focus on infectious diseases in the curriculum and will also work on creating educatory tutorials both within and outside the scope of BRS. I will also work to raise awareness about the opportunity to specialize in infectious diseases.
