Melat Eshetu

Hi everyone! We’re Melat and Keshika, and we’d love to be your Community & Outreach Chairs!
We both have a huge passion for paediatrics and hope to specialise in the field, so we’re excited about the chance to help grow the society’s impact, not just in hospitals, but in the wider community too!
Between us, we’ve got plenty of experience working with young people. We’ve spent a year tutoring 11+ students, which has helped us develop the skills to engage with children and build strong connections with local schools. On top of that, Melat’s work with In2Med has given her loads of experience supporting aspiring med students such as helping them with applications, securing work experience, and laying the foundation for their medical journey.
Melat has also volunteered as a hospital befriender, giving her firsthand insight into paediatric care, while Keshika’s experience working with SEN individuals has strengthened her ability to communicate with and support children with diverse needs. Plus, Keshika’s role as Head of Marketing for TSOC has helped her develop skills in promoting initiatives, coordinating outreach, and working with external organisations which will all be super useful for expanding the reach of the Paediatrics Society!
We’re keen to build stronger links with schools and communities, raise awareness about paediatrics and children’s health, and make volunteering opportunities easier to access for students. We’d love to be part of a society that means so much to us, and we’re excited about inspiring the next generation of paediatricians!
