Sustainability and Chemical Engineering are like steady state assumptions and process analysis questions- never one without the other! To be a true global citizen and innovator, it is essential to involve sustainable practices in the workings of a department. I’m Neerja Sonowal, and I am eager to bring my passion for sustainable development, corporate collaboration, and student-led engagement to the role of Sustainability Officer.

As the founder of DiscoverYourself (DY), I have actively worked towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through initiatives in healthcare and education, earning the CSR Gold Award (IHW Council) in 2022. Through my work experience with IndoUSRare, a Virginia-based rare disease organization, I deepened my understanding of sustainable healthcare solutions and the importance of collaborations between engineering, policy, and healthcare sectors.

My main goals as your sustainability officer:

By seeking partnerships with startups and sustainability-droven companies, I aim to build lasting relationships that will embed Imperial's ChemEng soc's values and passion for sustainability and innovation in the history of their company forever.

🔹 Interdisciplinary & Student Engagement
I aim to collaborate with other departments and societies to encourage interdisciplinary projects, workshops, and competitions focused on sustainability challenges.

🔹 Sustainable Practices & Awareness
Through talks, workshops, and awareness campaigns to educate and engage students in key sustainability topics, every student in the ChemENg soc will be an active participant in our vision towards netzero.
