Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI Researchers

Hi, I’m Tom Richardson, a first-year Machine Learning and Data Science Master’s student at Imperial, also working as a Data and Machine Learning Engineer at a startup. Outside of AI, I’m passionate about chess and running, both of which I represented Warwick for during my undergrad.

I have a strong background in AI research and development. Previously, I co-founded ChessCam, a computer vision app that analyzes over-the-board chess games and converts them into 2D notation, a project that revolved around supervised learning techniques for object detection and tracking. Currently, my work as an ML Engineer focuses on extracting insights from ours and ITVs/Skys datasets and refining the models we have in our custom dashboard. The Imperial course I’m studying is an online master’s, which is further deepening my understanding of statistical modeling, optimization, and deep learning.

I am applying for the AI Researcher role because I want to refine my research skills in preparation for my master’s research project next summer. Collaborating with other AI researchers in the society will provide an excellent opportunity to develop my ability to conduct rigorous projects, evaluate models critically, and contribute to cutting-edge AI discussions.

For my research focus, I am particularly interested in applying statistical analysis to MarTech, leveraging the dataset at Viewerslogic to explore AI-driven insights. This research has practical applications in understanding consumer behavior and optimizing marketing strategies.

I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the AI Society, so please check out my other manifesto for Alumni Co-ordinator too!
