Synthetic Biology: Treasurer

Hello! I hope you're all having a lovely day! My name is Isabella and I study Biological Sciences with a Year in Industry/Research, currently on my industry placement. I am very excited to run for the role of Treasurer for SynBIC!

My love for synthetic biology was something that I only discovered at Imperial as I had never heard of synbio before coming here. Throughout my degree so far, I've done projects on DNA data storage, my Tutored Dissertation on biocomputing (specifically artificial neural networks and their integration with techniques such as DNA strand displacement) and my recent UROP where I actually used said DNA strand displacement to manipulate an image we stored on synthetic DNA and then sequenced using Oxford Nanopore sequencing (it was a very cool project).

My previous experience:

  • Treasurer of the Computational Biology Society - experience with the Union's finance systems, claims, budgets, etc.
  • Hall Senior at Beit Hall - planning lots of regular events, making posters, ordering food/equipment
  • Secretary of the Beit Hall Committee - taking minutes at fortnightly Hall Committee Meetings
  • Year in Industry Placement - organising general lab meetings, CPD sessions, journal clubs and other social events

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I would love to be a member of the Synthetic Biology Society committee and help to introduce the area to more people!
