Obstetrics & Gynaecology: Early Years Academic Officer

Hello! I am Thilaksana Thavaranjan, a current iBSc RDS student. During the ICOGS conference last year, I gained more interest towards the ICOGS society influenced by the hands-on workshop.

Volunteering as a mock examiner for MMIs (PotMED, ICSM Vision & NCS), CPAs (MedEd) and OSCEs (ICSMSU) has enhanced my interpersonal and problem-solving skills, which will be helpful when liaising with other members of ICOGS and the younger years. I have also been part of the AMSA subcommittee overlooking the mock OSCEs, enhancing my teamworking skills.

Tutoring for an MMI workshop at the London-wide Paediatrics Conference, clinical skills session (Muslim Medics) and OSCEs has boosted my confidence in communicating with people of all years and enhanced my organisation skills by planning lessons for OSCEs.

Aims:

  • Organise tutorials on Development & Ageing followed with Mentimeter quizzes.
  • Record tutorials for students unable to attend session and for them to revisit content.
  • Create exam style question papers with mark schemes on Development & Ageing.
  • Advertise for recruitment of tutors and provide them with certificates and feedback forms.
  • Create mentoring programs connecting early-year students with senior medical students to gain insight into RDS iBSc and O&G.
  • Promote early interest in O&G by advertising external events and opportunities related to O&G.

I am deeply passionate about this role and look forward to being a part of ICOGS.
