Mahathir Ahmed

Muslim Medics: Vice-President for Education

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

Suitability for This Role:
Over the past year, serving as Year 1 Coordinator while managing Year 2 content, ongoing projects, and supporting other organisations has strengthened my organisational and time management skills. My experience assisting with conferences has equipped me to handle challenges like last-minute dropouts and time pressures, both crucial for running mocks. I’ve already spoken with the previous VP of Education and look forward to learning more during the handover.

Supporting coordinators is central to the role, and I believe one of my key strengths is working collaboratively. I’d like to highlight the importance of team cohesion in the education stream, especially as the role can feel isolated. I hope to introduce more in-person events and create more opportunities to work together.

The VP role extends beyond one stream. This year, I’ve helped organise the Brothers’ Social and served on panels across MM events. These experiences have given me insight into how different streams operate, and I’m committed to continuing cross-stream contributions, with education as my focus.

Potential Ideas for the Future:
When I ran for Year 1 Coordinator, I delivered on my promises, most notably by writing and running the 3-hour BRS mock exam. I want to build on that success by:

  • Replacing some early-year mocks with SBA-style tutorials to promote active learning

  • Improving clinical skills session timing to boost attendance

  • Promoting student research through events and mentorship

  • Collaborating with other societies, such as Surgical and Cardiovascular—to widen MM’s reach and impact
