Muslim Medics: Medical Outreach Officer

As a Muslim and a medical student, having a community like Muslim Medics has been incredibly meaningful to me. It’s a place where I feel supported, inspired and connected. Over the last year, I have attended many events like iftars, BADG and tutorials; they have demonstrated the importance of combining knowledge and values to serve others. These experiences have influenced my vision of the person, Muslim and doctor I aspire to be. Joining Muslim Medics will allow me to grow and continue this journey.

In particular, I am eager to become the outreach officer due to the range of opportunities it offers to connect Muslim medics with the wider community. This role provides the chance to serve others making it both crucial and rewarding in this life and the hereafter. Through current events and social media, I have recognised areas that require significant attention. Therefore, as part of this role, I would like to help raise awareness about what is happening in the world, prevent the spread of misinformation and increase health literacy whilst promoting core Islamic values like kindness, equality and justice.

Having previously organised events on health and wellbeing, weekly food banks, and helped coordinate open days and community iftars at my local mosque, I have developed key skills in communication, teamwork and organisation. As an outreach officer, I am passionate to expand on these experiences and continue to build my skills in networking, planning and leadership to serve the wider community in a meaningful way.
