Assalamualaikum guys, my name is Rayan and I am running for Year 1 Coordinator!

First year is evidently very difficult, in the sense that you are not only adjusting to university life but also specifically to studying medicine, and I know firsthand how easy it becomes to get lost and overwhelmed. And to help with that, I'm hoping I can bring alot of experience with students and young people to the role ranging from tutoring to campaigning for young people in the KYCC and much more.

I am well aware the bar is set very high with an incredibly successful year of tutorials for the Year 1s this year, something that I and many other students could not have done without. And there's certainly an opportunity to try new things, particularly revision days closer to exams to lighten the daunting task of approaching all the content in exam season.

The rest of the year, I want to engage with the first years as much as possible throughout, with the introduction of 'Ask Us Anything' sessions so that students can ask questions not just about the content but also navigating uni life in general. And I have alot of other aims including more and different types of resources and more 1st year social events.

Supporting students like this is actually something I enjoy and relying on such support is what helped me get through first year so it would be a privilege to do the same for others with this role.
