Leila Jaafar
Assalamu alaykom,
My name is Leila and I’m running to be next year’s VP of PotMed. Over the past year as Social Secretary, I’ve valued the chance to contribute to the strong sense of community and purpose that MM fosters - whether through delivering Fresher Fortnight events, planning Annual Dinner, or holding our Gaza: Through a Medical Lens conference. Alongside this, I led meaningful community initiatives as BADG Blood Drives Co-Head, liaising with DKMS and coordinating volunteer teams to organise a successful Stem Cell Drive. I appreciate the vital role MM plays within and beyond Imperial, and as VP of PotMed, I’m eager to carry my experiences forward into widening access to medicine.
As VP of PotMed, I aim to further expand the reach and depth of our outreach through:
-
Reinstating the PotMed Mentoring Scheme, pairing students with mentors to guide them through their application journey.
-
Expanding our volunteer network through partnerships with other universities and student societies.
-
Launching a new Summer Conference offering aspiring medics a hands-on experience, including medical lectures, clinical workshops (e.g. CPR, venepuncture, suturing) and case-based discussions.
-
Extending PotMed’s reach to younger school years, sparking early interest and building confidence.
Ultimately as VP of PotMed I hope to provide aspiring medics with the kinds of opportunities I wish I’d had. Having received help from PotMed I know how amazing of an initiative it is - my aim is to expand its scope from going beyond only application support to helping aspiring medics at every stage of their journey.
