Vaasahi Rubakumar

I would like to stand for the role of Head of Culture for Imperial Tamil Society. My life is deeply rooted in Tamil cultural heritage as I speak Tamil fluently, teach at a Tamil school, and perform Bharathanatyam.

I have a strong passion for preserving and advocating for Tamil identity, particularly the Tamil Eelam cause, which I view as vital to our community’s history, present, and future. Since the age of 4, I have attended Maaveerar Naal memorial days. I want to use this position to highlight the continued struggles of our people and also celebrate the traditions that have been passed down to us over the centuries. I hope to plan educational talks and fundraisers, and to help efforts to bring light to Tamil Eelam. I love my culture, and traditional events like Pongal are very dear to me, and I would always ensure that the authenticity and tradition of the same are sustained and passed on.

Outside of university, I am actively involved in the Tamil community. I am organised, driven, and deeply proud of my roots. This role aligns with me as I want to celebrate and advocate for our culture.
