Szymon Kwidzinski
My name is Szymon Kwidzinski, a first-year Economics, Finance and Data Science student, but more importantly, an aspiring filmmaker and cinephile. I’m running for Film Journalist to bring fresh, creative, and critical voices to the way we engage with film at Imperial.
I regularly attend film festivals, from Gdynia to London, and I’m currently working on my debut short film, which explores the evolving relationship between society and the sea. These experiences have shaped how I watch films: not just as stories, but as reflections of culture, memory, and emotion. I’d love to share these perspectives with our community.
If elected, I will launch a “Reel Thoughts” column, a mix of quick takes, in-depth reflections, interviews with society members, and festival spotlights. Whether you’re a seasoned critic or someone who just loves a good story, this column will have something for you.
I also propose founding an online Imperial Film Journal, where members can submit reviews, essays, and creative work. It will lay the foundation for a long-term platform that celebrates the voices and ideas within our society.
Post-screening write-ups and film-themed collaborations with other societies will help us explore cinema’s power to connect and provoke.
Above all, I want to turn the Imperial Film Society into a space where films aren’t just watched but written about, argued over, and remembered.
