Hi everyone! I'm Maria,

Being elected for the role of the Data Science Industry Officer would be a great privilege, and one I am fully ready to commit to.

EFDS is an incredibly useful course in a multitude of ways; one of its shortcomings is its limited application of data science to industries outside of finance and economics. I would love to change this within Imperial.

I believe in constructing practically useful data science events, whether they are skill based workshops, competitions, or speaker events, with real insights into the industry, that would really benefit us all.

I want to highlight how data science drives not just finance, but also tech, healthcare, retail, and beyond as well as create opportunities for us to apply our skills to real-world challenges in these sectors, not just talk about them.

A main focus for me will be encouraging student-led entrepreneurship. So many of us - whether in science, business, engineering, or beyond, are already developing ideas and start-ups where data science plays an important role. I think there’s a lot of value in coordinating support for Imperial-based ventures that are exploring these opportunities.
