STEM Muslims Society: Chair

As-salaamu ‘alaykum,
I’m Dawud, and I’m running to be the next Chair of STEM Muslims Society.

I’ve been part of STEMM since first year — starting as a fresher rep, then serving as Events Head. Over that time, I’ve helped deliver careers fairs, panel talks, and cross-campus collaborations that brought real value to our members. Every step has been rewarding, and I’m eager to keep building on that momentum.

But STEMM is more than just a professional network. It exists to empower Muslim students in Science, Tech, Engineering and Maths while staying rooted in our deen. It’s a space where growth, ambition and Islamic values come together.

I hope to:

  • Grow our professional reach by building on the Careers Fair, bringing in speakers from a wider range of industries, and exploring ways to connect members with mentorship and internship opportunities.

  • Elevate student development through technical workshops, soft skills sessions, and project-based initiatives that encourage leadership and collaboration.

  • Strengthen our community through regular socials, reflective spaces, and events that keep our deen at the heart of what we do.

  • Expand outreach and inspire the next generation through meaningful school programmes, STEM days, and initiatives like the Haqqathon — a creative space combining tech with purpose.

  • Support global education by promoting opportunities like Education Beyond Borders, enabling students to teach disadvantaged learners remotely.

I believe STEMM can be a platform for excellence, connection and long-term change. I’m ready to lead with sincerity, structure, and a clear focus on keeping our values at heart.
