Thilaksana Thavaranjan
Hi! I am Thilaksana Thavaranjan, a fourth-year medical student, interested in the ICSM Vision society.
Volunteering as a mock examiner for MMIs (PotMED, ICSM Vision & NCS), CPAs (MedEd) and OSCEs (ICSMSU) has enhanced my interpersonal and problem-solving skills, which will both help me liaise with members of ICSM Vision and peer medical students. Having volunteered for a variety of societies, including ICSM Vision, provides me a good insight of how each society recruits volunteers and organises events. I have also been part of the AMSA subcommittee overlooking the mock OSCEs, enhancing my teamworking skills. Hence, I am able to advertise recruitment posts/posters for conferences, maintain a spreadsheet for volunteers, update training documents for volunteer interviewers and train them on the day of the conference.
Tutoring for an MMI workshop at the London-wide Paediatrics Conference, clinical skills session (Muslim Medics) and OSCEs has boosted my confidence in communicating with people of all years and amplified my organisation skills by planning lessons for OSCEs.
Aims:
- Reach a wide pool of candidates through strategic advertising on social media, and through professional networks to ensure our society benefits from a range of perspectives.
- Communicate society's aims, values, and benefits, ensuring that we present ourselves as a great place to work for both prospective students and the wider community.
- Provide volunteers with feedback forms from attendees in addition to the certificate they receive.
- Ensure that every candidate, whether successful or not, has a positive and professional experience with our recruitment process.
