Hi everyone! I'm Dev. In my undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester, I headed peer support efforts that focused on helping first-year undergraduate students adjust to university life. I understand the feeling of needing help or advice, and as course rep, I'd love to be your reliable source of advice.
I believe in the importance of strong feedback between students and staff. Many times, MSc students feel like they should be able to handle their own issues, but that's not always the case. I've faced some scenarios where I've needed help from an outside perspective, and as a rep, I will strongly push the staff to create more peer-led support infrastructure for MSc students. A friend of mine said something profound regarding MSc students: "We are in a unique situation where we are freshers but at the same time, some of the most senior taught students at the university." This stuck with me and only made it clearer how difficult a situation that can be. That is why I will take actions to ensure that assimilation into student life comes easier to MSc students. I will also open a weekly feedback form for any issues, suggestions, improvements or even rants to hear from everyone.
When it comes to facilitating assimilation, I plan to hold an event with MSc Aero students and 4th-year MEng Aero students. To increase well-being, I will push for changes in the MSc common room, starting with more facilities and natural light.
