RSMU: RSMU Postgraduate Ordinary Member

Hi, my name is Jakob, I'm a first-year PhD students in Earth Science and Engineering, and I’m running to be your Postgraduate Ordinary Member on the RSMU Committee!

I completed my MSci in Geology at Imperial in 2024, and throughout my four years, I was deeply involved in all things RSMU (most recently serving as Vice-President (Clubs & Societies) during the 2023-24 academic year). I’m eager to bring this experience, along with my passion for representing the student voice, to support the Union’s operations and strengthen postgraduate engagement within the RSMU community.

Postgraduates are often underrepresented at RSMU events, and I want to help change that. If elected, I’ll work to increase postgraduate visibility, involvement, and sense of belonging within the Union. This includes developing tailored postgraduate events, promoting participation in existing clubs and traditions, and improving communication between the postgraduate and undergraduate communities.

My experience as the ESE Departmental Undergraduate Wellbeing Representative has equipped me to advocate effectively for student needs, foster inclusion, and ensure everyone feels supported and heard. I believe that building stronger connections between postgraduates and undergraduates will create a more united RSMU - one that celebrates the diversity and shared spirit of our community.

Thank you for reading, and I’d be honoured to represent you on the RSMU Committee!
