Asha de Silva

I am Asha, a second year computing student. I am running for the Disability Welfare position because I want Imperial to do more to support disabled students. As welfare officer I would like to work towards different disabilities recieving more understanding from staff and more awareness across campus.

I will begin the year creating advocacy material for disabled students and general population to become more familiar with the Equality Act and disability rights in the UK and within Imperial.

This year I would like to work with health and safety to organise disability related training for South Kensington campus security with the aim of treating students with disabilities with more patience and gaining more understanding of the common conditions that security respond to in campus. I would also like to organise support training for accommodation staff in some first year halls with the accommodation team, and work towards implementing a system to extend this training to various accommodation teams, that can be accessible to students upon request.
