Dear the Biological Sciences cohort:
I hope you are doing well. I am Steven Ji, the Year 2 Biological Sciences Academic Representative. In the last two years, I worked in the academic representation network to promote communication between students and staff. Now, eager to go further, I am running for the Departmental Academic Representative.
Through my last two year's experience in representing the Biological Sciences cohort, I understood how academic representatives work. I designed questionnaires to collect student opinions, raised issues in the staff-student committee meetings and returned staff feedback to students. Over the course, I became more proficient as a representative.
In doing this, I also realised the importance of my role: I am the "bridge" between students and staff. Timely, effective communication is the key to success in this role.
Therefore, if I am elected to be the Departmental Academic Representative, I will:
- Respond to email queries promptly (usually within 1 hour).
- Attend staff-student committee meetings to reflect on students' ideas.
- Try to alleviate strike impacts, e.g. cancelled lectures and marking boycotts.
- Share extracurricular opportunities, including volunteering, research, conferences, seminars, internships, etc.
- Support students using learning technologies, including BlackBoard, ePortfolio, and Turnitin.
The list above is not exhaustive: I will try my best and coordinate with academic representatives across year groups to ensure student's learning experiences and access to extracurricular opportunities.
Thank you, and please vote for me.
Sincerely,
Steven Ji
