Dillon Tan
Chemical Engineering: Events Officer
Hi, I’m Dillon and I’m running for Events Officer!
Being the only student from my school to study in London was terrifying - I knew nobody. However, I found my people through ChemEngSoc's various events. Frank Morton is the most memorable event I participated in, where I made new friends and got closer to my seniors. Its impact on me has motivated me to bring this feeling of togetherness to other students.
My experience as founding president of "Prototyping and Hacking Society" (ProtoSoc):
- Oversee planning and logistics of all events – delegating tasks, implementing an efficient event documents organizational system, and working with the union to approve event proposals and risk assessments.
Plans as Events Officer:
- Send regular polls/surveys and maintain an Excel sheet of activities the students are interested in.
- Start new activities; continue those that had high participation rates from students, determined through analysis of participation records from the previous committee.
- Day-trips outside London, targeted at students who haven’t explored other parts of the UK.
- Paintball, mini-golf.
- Dog/cat cafe.
- Poker night.
- Inter-university events.
- Hackathons on topics such as renewables and sustainability.
- Sports competitions (work with sports officer).
- Annual GALA, dinners.
- Events, especially with UCL, will foster connections between ChemEng students.
- Collaboration with ProtoSoc and other departments to organize hackathons in the Hackspace. I wish to replicate the DigiFAB Chemistry Hackathon 2021.
- Collaborate with tour and IR officer to organise frequent career events and site visits.
Thanks for reading. I hope you’ll consider me to be your next Events Officer!
