Claire Shyle
Hello everyone! My name is Claire, a first-year biochemist. I am excited to be a part of the biochemistry society, to represent the department as the Vice President. I am a firm believer in the power of people; that the creation of something worthwhile and fun starts from the people. As such my goal for this year’s biochemistry society is to present opportunities for participation outside of the society. I’m sure we’re all dying to contribute and be part of a greater mission and what better way to do that than to volunteer for the society.
Furthermore, I recognize that communication with not only society members but the cohort is what will shape the biochemistry society. Hence, I hope to bring open communication and transparency, with the first step being to provide opportunities for student input. So if you ever see me, feel free to approach me or anonymously submit your opinions in polls :)
All in all, I’m excited to contribute to an active society with my experiences as the leader of multiple organizations, and I thank all the people who have inspired me to apply for such a position. As a final message, I would like to propose some ideas I'd like to implement:
- More subsidized social events that don't clash with exams
- Career-oriented talks, with details on how to stand out as an applicant. Company and Lab tours for real-world experiences
- Coffee machines in the common room
- Departmental cooperation through frequent discussion with lecturers and other societies.
