Helen Sun
Hello everyone! My name is Helen, a current year one Medical Bioscience student, and I am running for the coordinator role of Soup Run for next year. Joining this charity has been so eye-opening, and it is safe to say that Soup Run has changed the way I see the world around me.
Over the years of high school, I was the subject rep for the whole school. I have demonstrated good leadership, time management, and communication skills by mentoring lower years in my free time, and organising revision sessions, which received lots of positive feedback. During my time at Imperial, I have further enhanced these skills and developed very good team-working skills, which are vital to running a society smoothly, by joining multiple societies and extracurricular projects.
My goals for next year:
- Advertise more volunteering opportunities in other soup kitchens in London- I know from myself that volunteering once a term does not satisfy the heart to help others (which is partly why I am applying to be on the committee!), so this would allow more people to be engaged in volunteering, and spread awareness around homelessness.
- Working with the treasurer to try and secure a budget from the union for the cooking sessions to make them held more frequently—this would not only lower the spending but also allow more people to get involved in volunteering.
I promise to give this position my all, and hopefully you guys can give me this chance to be your coordinator next year!
