Aishah Anjum
Hello! I'm Aishah, a medical student running for the Academic Foundation Programme Lead for SORA next year. My personal experience of living with an under-researched chronic health condition has highlighted the importance of the field of academia and fueled my dedication for it.
I have also worked directly in research, through my previous job as a clinical research scientist during my gap year. In those 6 months I acquired many skills essential for this position. Working intensively to fulfill a daily quota of booking patient appointments, I had to remain extremely organised to prevent scheduling clashes. This was consolidated by my duties of collecting biological samples and entering patient data into databases for analysis. Effective communication was the foundation of my job, displayed by interacting with patients calmly and persuasively, collaborating with GP staff to ensure patient safety, and teamworking with colleagues to resolve problems.
Additionally, serving as the current representatives for the Horizons Department and Spanish Languages showcases my commitment and leadership through chairing meetings and overseeing a team of representatives. This will be useful for planning the academic foundation year events.
I have also contributed to research for an under-explored condition (PCOS) as a study participant. Therefore, along with my experience as a clinical research scientist, I understand the significance of research from both perspectives. I would love the opportunity to be a part of SORA especially due to my goal of incorporating scientific research into my career!
Thank you for considering me!
