Antonia Ngai
Hi! I'm Antonia and I am running for sponsorship officer for FemTech, as my experience as both head girl and head of charity has equipped me with great responsibility and communication skills. I have had opportunities to deliver speeches and presentations, and represented my peers to raise the issue of natural hair inclusion on campus. This led to a change of the school rules to allow students to keep their natural hair style linked to their ethnic and cultural identity.
As head of charity, I’ve also accumulated substantial fundraising experience. I fundraised for STEM4, a charity targeting teenagers mental health. I liaised with them and organised and promoted an initiative raising £700 through running, walking and cycling fundraisers within my school. I also personally support a charity called High Five Club that supports a local community in Malawi. I have contributed in raising over £1000 through bake sales in school - I’m currently running my own cookie business!
When I took an Epidemiology course at John’s Hopkins University, I reached out to Epidemiology professors and public health officials for talks on Microsporidiosis treatment. My experience is furthered as an spring intern at a bioscience startup, where I will help launch products, research business development and channel distribution. I will accompany the company’s marketing chief in meetings with doctors, laboratory technicals and medicare operators. I believe this is advantageous to being sponsorship officer as my professional experience will involve researching potential sponsors, maintaining the relationship and finding ways to meet funding goals.
