Cricket: 3rd Team Captain
BUCS has been a great addition to the 3s this year, with the added pressure on players highlighting brilliant performances in the batting department.
The welcoming environment created by committee for new members is also great to see, something that I'd like to continue as 3rd XI captain.
Here's what I'd focus on if I was captain:
- Active Social Member - I'll make an effort to get to know new players, important especially for the 3s.
- Lineup flexibility - I'll move the batting order around so players get experience playing in different positions, avoiding as many TFCs as possible.
- More focussed winter nets - More game specific drills in nets, asking bowlers to set fields and keeping a score of what batters get. Encourages batters to identify single taking options, and to allow bowlers to get involved in the game.
- On field tactics - Willingness to learn from senior players about fielding positions and bowling choices in game situations.
- Squad rotation - Award strong net performances with game time, something that's already being done well this year.
- Organisation - From speaking with this year's committee , it seems that dealing with last minute opposition space cadetry among other logistical issues is a huge part of the role. Having experience in business, my organisational skills are already strong but I'm ready to take it up a level for this new role.
With the plans I've set out (and experience captaining my school's 2nd XI team), hopefully I can earn your vote tonight as next year's 3rd XI captain.
