Joel Lam

Hello everyone, I am Joel, a Year 2 student studying Mathematics. Settling into university life was not easy, and many times I felt tired out by chasing many different experiences in university, thinking it would make my university life fruitful. While I did have some great experiences, I never truly felt at peace. As the year went by, however, and I got to know more about the Catholic society in Imperial, I was able to find peace with what I had, knowing that I had done my best and tried my best to cooperate with God's grace. A big part of this transformative process was the community within the Catholic society. It was ultimately a safe space where I was able to meet some great, Christ centered people whom I could talk to, and I took a lot of comfort in knowing that these people too were journeying with me together towards God.

My wish is for every incoming university student to realise that true peace lies in knowing God and believing in His promises. I hope that as secretary of CathSoc, it provides people in Imperial the opportunity to encounter God and have a taste of what community has to offer, one that provides an outlook into what it means to be part of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. With my experience in dealing with administrative tasks as a former secretary of my department in my high school's student's council, I am confident in achieving this vision.
