Infectious Diseases Society: Early Years’ Representative

As a dedicated medical student with a keen interest in infectious diseases I am excited to present my candidacy for a role for Early Years' Representative to open up the intricate world of infectious diseases to other students beginning their journey in medical school. I am fascinated by pathogens and their methods of infection, and I hold a particular interest in the impacts communicable diseases have on society, from a social and financial perspective. As part of committee, I hope to share my enthusiasm whilst expanding my knowledge and being inspired by my peers in this society.

My aims

  • Interview younger members of the society to gauge their interests and work to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment, that encourages engagement from all
  • Develop a mentorship program that pairs younger and older students to provide early-year members with a point of support in the society and throughout their medical journey
  • Organise outreach programs to engage Sixth Form students to help them further understand the field whilst also giving members the opportunity to practise their teaching skills
  • Arrange community outreach programs where younger students can participate in education campaigns to raise awareness about infectious diseases and promote public health and infection control strategies
  • Help host beginner friendly workshops focusing on skills touched upon early on in the MBBS course, including gram staining and microscopy

I am eager to contribute my skills and visions as your Early Years' Representative and to support the society’s sustainable growth. Thank you
