Infectious Diseases Society: Early Years’ Representative

Hi everyone,

My name is Vishal and I'm a 2nd year medic.

With the renewed focus on infectious diseases with the somewhat recent COVID-19 pandemic (which has since turned endemic in many countries) I think it's important for students of biological sciences and future doctors to be well read and informed on them. New infectious diseases can be devastating to populations and old ones like tuberculosis have still not been eradicated and claim millions of lives a year still. As such it's important for us to be knowledgeable on infections diseases so that we can control their spread and treat them better at a population level. The study of infectious diseases is as such vital to today's healthcare system by reducing the impact of them on the struggling NHS system through primary preventative measures and efficient treatment. This is why I would like to involve myself more with this society so I can help to spread awareness amongst my peers and educate myself while I'm at it.

Having just almost finished my second year at medical school, I've had the early years experience, both the good and the bad and this will be able to effectively support future early years through the organisation of tutorials to explain content and sessions for those interested in infectious diseases to learn more from/ network with like minded peers and professionals in the field.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and I hope you vote for me.
