Harishan Ganeshan
From making great friends and going to many socials, to helping out at Games Night and MM Day as part of subcom, TSoc events have been the most favourite thing about my year.
Next year, it'd be wonderful to give more attention to the traditional and historical aspects of our culture. Tamil Heritage Month in January is the perfect chance to show the rest of the world the beauty of Tamil. We can:
- Hold a fun, educational exhibition describing our ancient kingdoms, literature, language and arts - open to all
- Invite influential and famous Tamils to give talks in the Great Hall before an audience of 750, celebrating our talent, inspiring us to be ambitious
- Celebrate Thai Pongal and Puththandu with light-hearted social events
I'd be eager for Imperial to host a 'Kalai Vizha' to showcase our talents in Carnatic Music and Bharathanatyam alongside other universities.
I believe it's also our responsibility to educate ourselves on the Eelam War to the last detail, especially given recent political tensions - when confronted, we should be well-equipped to debate our side. The initiatives I would undertake:
- Conducting case studies into our families' experiences during the war. When we hear near-death stories from the people we know, it makes the past less distant and more real. It forces us to appreciate the opportunities we have, and inspires us to give back to our diaspora.
- Organising Maaveerar Naal with TSI/TYO
- A multi-part series of in-depth talks on the causes/events of the War
- Holding controversial debates
