Hi there! I'm Jon, and I'm running to be your year academic rep. Are you tired of paying the department ludicrous amounts of money for underwhelming services? (£40K a year for us international folks!) So am I. As a startup founder, former naval officer and ambassador for several Fortune 1000 companies, I've got the negotiation and leadership experience to create some real change you can believe in.
Here's what change looks like:
1) Fighting for your requests, one step at a time. I've got a successful track record of pushing through requests through this department, having created several UROP opportunities, employment roles and even a startup through work I've done for the department. The sky is the limit, and I know how to push something through.
2) Creating a senior and alumni mentorship scheme. Learning to truly think like an engineer and solve problems is something that is best taught through mentorship. This is something that will get you jobs, and through mentoring your juniors, will make you a better engineer. Having set up similar schemes, I hope to combine this with my industrial network to make this a reality.
3) Making the ChemEng boat party actually happen. I've raised over £20K in sponsorships over the last 2 years from a large variety of companies (that's enough to rent several boats). If there is one person who can get the funding for this, it's me.
