Ethics & the Environment: Community Engagement Officer

Hi, I'm Annabell - a 3rd Medical Biosciences student, enthusiastic about sustainability and environmental protection! I previously served as Wellbeing Representative for my course, so I have experience working with the Union and advocating for students across a range of issues. I believe there’s an undeniable link between wellbeing and our environmental and ethical contributions.

I will ensure students have an opportunity to share their views on College and Union environmental policies, and directly shape the decisions that affect their lives at Imperial. I think it's crucial that information on the progress of ongoing campaigns, such as Imperial Climate Action and Plant-Based Universities is readily available, clear and accessible for all - not just those directly involved with these projects.

As a city university with multiple large campuses, Imperial has a major responsibility to minimize air quality impact, use efficient energy and foster biodiversity in and around its sites. Not just for students and staff, but for the public as well. Imperial has committed to reducing its impact on climate change and I intend to use my position to hold the university accountable to its Sustainability Strategy.

As Community Engagement Officer I promise to:

  • Survey land and energy use across Imperial’s campuses and halls and increase green spaces and biodiversity.
  • Regularly consult students on Ethics and Environmental campaigns and reporting findings in an open, accessible format.
  • Increase awareness of Liberation Network campaigns by publishing widely-available progress reports.
  • Pressure College to divest from fossil fuels and cut ties with other, unethical third parties.
