Acute Care Specialities : Research Officer

Hi! My name is Nilani, and I would love to be your research officer at the Acute Care Society!

I am passionate about acute medicine and am willing to promote research opportunities within society. During my medical education, I developed an interest in acute care, especially trauma and emergency medicine. Having volunteered in numerous healthcare services, including a COVID-19 vaccination hub, I have gained valuable insight into patient care in acute settings and how it may differ from other specialities. These experiences have motivated me to contribute to research in acute care whilst encouraging fellow students to explore this thrilling field of medicine.

In addition, I have developed strong communication and organisation skills through my job as a private tutor, gaining useful experience in breaking down complex concepts clearly and tailoring my approach to meet the needs of each individual. Furthermore, my previous role as secretary taught me to liaise with others, manage schedules and understand the logistics of the role. A combination of these skills will help me organise research workshops and connect members with research opportunities.

Being a research officer requires commitment, versatility and responsibility. If elected, I will work to develop research opportunities for members by organising seminars on research methodology and collaborations with academic staff. I aim to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to engage with research, regardless of their prior experience.

Thank you for reading this! I hope you will consider me as your future research officer!
