Hey guys, I’m Josh, your co-chair for this year!
You might be wondering why the co-chair would be running for the Events Secretary position, and that’s a very good question!
The short version is that the society has existed officially for a few years, but has been operationally defunct for some time now. The slightly longer version is that there was a catch 22 whereby the positions were technically filled, but because the society didn’t do anything, nobody joined and so there was nobody to nominate or to vote besides the people who filled the positions and their friends.
Thankfully, due a change of union policy forcing the previous chair to step down, Ella (your other co-chair) has been able to officially fill the role and we’ve been able to start building the society back up again!
Anyway, we now have a number of society positions that are technically filled but don’t exist in a functional capacity, and this one position which is not currently filled- which is why I’m running for it.
As co-chair, I’m responsible for the general operation of the society. I make some of the graphics, check our messages, put together the mailing list (more about that soon via the Whatsapp chat) and so on. Most importantly, I help plan our events such as our Greggs Crawl and Cuppa and Cards night!
