Ryota Hosokawa

Japanese: President

Who am I?
Hello! I'm Ryota Hosokawa, a first-year EEE student running for JapSoc president. Over the past year, I’ve been actively involved in organizing events for JapSoc freshers, which has given me valuable insight into how our society can grow and improve.

My Vision for JapSoc
I want to build a strong foundation for the future of our society - one where both Japanese and non-Japanese students can connect and thrive together. As JapSoc continues to grow, we need to better accommodate our increasing number of non-Japanese members. The current event participation trends show that we haven't fully adjusted to this shift.

My goal is to introduce more initiatives that make JapSoc an inclusive and engaging space for everyone who shares an interest in Japan. I also highly value the free Japanese language classes JapSoc offers and will continue to expand and improve them to benefit more members.

What I Will Do
To achieve this, I will:

  • Organize more JapSoc-exclusive events that are easy to attend, fun, and provide opportunities to practice Japanese while deepening cultural understanding.
  • Collaborate with societies like Mahjong and Origami Society, as they are deeply connected to Japanese culture, creating interactive ways for members to engage with the language.
  • Introduce JapSoc merch, with designs that represent our diverse and growing community.

Together, let's make JapSoc a place where everyone, Japanese or not, can enjoy Japanese culture to the maximum. 一緒にジャパソを盛り上げていきましょう!
