Hello! I’m Annabel, and I am thrilled to be running for Secretary of WSET. I believe in the power of communication, organization, and fostering a supportive environment for women, which is why I’m passionate about this society and its ethos.
As your Secretary, I will ensure that all communications are smooth and efficient, from responding to emails promptly to keeping everything organized and well-coordinated. My experience in outreach with universities like Imperial and Oxford during sixth form has inspired me to create an inclusive space for women, as I believe it is of utmost importance to be part of communities like WSET to inspire and motivate women to enter STEM fields. By supporting each other, we can help foster growth and encourage more women to pursue STEM-based roles after university. As a Black woman, WSET is important to me because it creates a space where women from all backgrounds can support each other and thrive. WSET embodies inclusivity, and I’m committed to ensuring all women feel heard, valued, and encouraged to succeed in their academic and professional journeys.
Outside of academics, you’ll likely find me wandering around Foyles on Tottenham Court Road—my favorite bookshop—poring over my latest read. A Thousand Splendid Suns is my all-time favorite book, and I find music by Rihanna always lifts my spirits. Oh, and if you’re ever craving Turkish food, count me in!
