Research is fundamental to surgical innovation, and as a Research Representative, I aim to bridge the gap between students and surgical research opportunities, making research more accessible, structured, and rewarding.
With experience researching hypervigilance and vestibular perception, as well as leading clinical audits such as the DATES audit on TIA services and the Pharmacy First audit, I understand the challenges students face in securing research roles and publishing their work. If elected, I will:
- Expand access to surgical research opportunities by collaborating with Imperial’s surgeons, clinicians, and external institutions to connect students with ongoing projects and mentorship.
- Organise research skills workshops, covering essentials such as study design, data analysis, critical appraisal, and academic writing, tailored to surgical research.
- Develop a structured database of research projects, providing clear pathways for students to get involved in surgical studies and audits.
- Support students in publishing and presenting research, by guiding them through the process of submitting to journals, conferences, and competitions.
If you want greater access to surgical research, structured mentorship, and more opportunities to publish and present, vote for me as Research Representative. Let’s strengthen the research culture in the SurgiSoc and empower students to take their first steps in academic surgery.
