Sudharshan Palaniappa

Hi everyone, my name is Sudharshan, and I’m a third-year medical student who is excited to be running for the position of Sponsorship Officer in Surgical Society.

As an individual who is passionate about surgery, I understand the importance of collaborating with sponsors to support our society’s events and initiatives. Securing strong partnerships with external organisations will allow us to continue offering high-quality events, workshops, and opportunities for our members.

My experience with the Surgical Society this year has given me insight into the society’s operations and how essential sponsorship is for organizing successful events. As a member of the Subcommittee, I contributed to the execution of various events, including the flagship Trauma Conference and Skills Days for various specialties. I played a key role in the Reconstructing The Stereotype Conference, managing speaker and workshop lead coordination, creating marketing materials, and assisting in event organization. These roles have honed my organisational and communication skills, and deepened my understanding of what sponsors seek from their partnerships. Through my Research Coordinator role in Clinical Genetics, I have also developed some experience in sponsorship acquisition and management.

If elected as Sponsorship Officer, my goals will be to:

• Secure sponsorships from key players in the surgical field to support our events
• Strengthen existing sponsor relationships while attracting new partners to expand resources for the society
• Develop tailored sponsorship packages that align with the society’s and sponsors’ goals
