FemTech: Events Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Siya, a second-year Bioengineering student passionate about tech and women’s health.

Did you know that even in 2025, 80% of women feel medical professionals haven’t listened to them – or haven’t believed them?
Women’s health remains drastically underfunded and understudied. Conditions like endometriosis and PCOS receive significantly less research funding compared to conditions like erectile dysfunction, and it takes an average of 8 years for a woman to receive an endometriosis diagnosis. Meanwhile, clinical trials have historically excluded women, leading to medications and treatments primarily designed for men.

At an institution like Imperial—home to the brightest minds in research and industry—we have a unique opportunity to highlight these inequalities and drive innovation in FemTech. Since joining FemTech as a member, I have attended various events and would love to contribute as a committee member next year.

As Events Officer, I will aim to plan events that support:

1. Networking - through collaborations with startups, researchers, investors, and industry leaders in FemTech, in the form of conferences and careers fairs.
2. Upskilling - through workshops that introduce new developments in FemTech in an engaging manner, such as machine learning in diagnostics, entrepreneurship, and CAD for medical device design.
3. Awareness - through case study challenges that highlight real-world disparities in women’s health research
4. Community - through relaxed socials, networking mixers, and collaboration nights with other societies.

Let’s push the boundaries of women’s health innovation together! Looking forward to bringing you all some incredible events next year.
