My first introduction to Muslim Medics came when I attended PotMed in Year 12. Coming from an underrepresented background and a sixth form that had few medicine applicants, I felt that applying to study medicine was an impossible and overwhelming task. Attending PotMed - where I was exposed to practice MMI circuits, ethics workshops and UCAT guidance - gave me a sense of belonging at Imperial and played a massive role in my success in becoming a medical student.
I was inspired by the nurturing and fostering environment I was first exposed to by the Muslim Medics community in Year 12 and this continued in university through attending: charity events, tutorials and talks. Moreover, having the privilege of partaking in multiple PotMed MMI Intensives was a fulfilling, fun and rewarding experience. Guiding aspiring medics reminded me how impactful and powerful PotMed is upon the wider community - which is why I would love to utilize my teamwork skills and ambition to help the future generations of aspiring medics.
Thus, I would like to become PotMed Intensive lead because I would like to give back to aspiring medics and provide them with the same support that led to me getting into Imperial. I understand how daunting it can be as an aspiring medic, and I would love to be a part of a meaningful team that brings clarity, optimism and compassion. I aim to utilize my skills to help improve PotMed such as through increasing the number of attendees by making events more accessible and appealing.
