I have chosen to apply for PotMed intensive lead because not only do I feel very passionate about improving the accessibility of medicine, but also because I know just how incredibly rewarding and impactful this role can be. Having volunteered to be an interviewer for intensives 5 and 6, I was able to get a taste for how meaningful it felt to support the applicants both in person and online. I really appreciate the hard work that went into the process of recruiting volunteers, ensuring everyone was kept up to speed and on time, as well as making sure that the applicants got the most out of their day with high quality feedback.
As a widening participation student myself, I remember how daunting it felt to apply to medical school as it was hard not to doubt my capabilities. Thus, I would love to be a part of making a change going forward and reassuring students from every background that medical school is for all! Being a part of the PotMed team is a role that I believe I am well suited to, as I absolutely love sharing ideas and working on exciting projects. As such, I believe that helping to organise fun ways to both advertise as well as present the teaching during PotMed events would be really enjoyable, and highly suited to my ability to communicate effectively with my colleagues, organise logistics and brain-storm many ideas together.
