Genevieve Lau

Hello, I’m Gen! I would be honoured to represent our cohort as one of your HDA course reps this year. I am passionate about connecting with others and building community. Our cohort comes from diverse academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds, which will make this year so enriching, especially if we can create a collaborative and close-knit environment. As a course representative, I will help foster our HDA community and ensure that feedback is used to shape a program that reflects what we collectively need and value.

Along with my passion for community, I believe I am a great candidate for this role because of my past leadership experiences. As the president of my undergraduate sailing team, I learned how to listen thoughtfully to concerns, resolve conflicts between members, organise complex logistics, and communicate effectively with university/athletics administration. I’ll bring those same skills to representing our class, ensuring that our voices are well-represented in meetings with HDA staff, that issues are raised constructively, and that our suggestions lead to meaningful change. I was also a first-year orientation leader, where I hosted social events, helped students form connections with each other and the wider community, and created an inclusive and welcoming environment. I am excited to organise social events that make our time in HDA enjoyable and memorable, from casual catch-ups to larger gatherings. This is a meaningful year for all of us, and I’d be thrilled to contribute as your HDA course representative.
