Ahmet Tanrikulu
Hey, I am Ahmet, a first-year student studying Materials Science. Just so you know a bit more about me, I am ethnically Turkish but have lived in the UK for around 8 years and weirdly completed a year of study at the University of Bristol before transferring to Imperial.
My experience navigating Imperial with my bright blue crutches has shown me that true accessibility requires more than just policies; it requires proactive, visible change. As Campaigns Officer, I will turn our shared experiences into impactful, university-wide action. My first priority will be a campaign for physical auditing of our campuses and pushing for tangible upgrades like reliable lifts, automatic doors in all buildings, and truly accessible study spaces. I will work to ensure that all spaces are friendly for visually or auditory impaired students. Just as importantly, I will champion a 'Visible Support, Invisible Struggles' campaign to raise awareness of non-visible disabilities and mental health conditions, challenging stigma and promoting the support available to every student. I have firsthand experience of the barriers we face and the determination to dismantle them. I will be a relentless advocate, working with the union and university to ensure our campus becomes genuinely inclusive for everyone.
