Edward Bird

Hi Everyone, I’m Ed Bird and I am a third year chemistry student running for the position of Student Trustee! As the current vice president of operations for RCSU and the council rep for undergraduate science, I have a lot of experience dealing with the union and so am well equipped to make the most of this position. My current roles have allowed me to discuss the issues and opinions of many students and, as trustee, I will be more able to represent and act on these in the next academic year.

My overall focus is on improving student satisfaction and representing/supporting the student body, but I also have a few key areas I feel strongly about including:

• Pushing for greater consideration of student opinions in large scale decisions and changes within the university and union (Cough cough the rebranding cough cough).
• Fighting the inflation of campus prices, including the ethos membership, union bar, and food outlets.
• Promote transparency and actively responding to open letters from students.
• Pushing for and supporting environmental reforms within Imperial, including removing fossil fuel investments from the imperial portfolio.
• Improving access to mental health support for the whole student body.
• Supporting efforts to widen participation, especially for groups from underprivileged backgrounds who would otherwise not be able to get involved.
• Address departmental issues such as unfair and inconsistent marking.
