Dharun Srirathan
Having attended many of surgical society’s events, I thoroughly enjoyed the events that had been put on, inspiring me to run for marketing officer.
Through organising and chairing my school’s TedX talks, I have expertise in creating leaflets and promotion videos to advertise events. Furthermore, I was provided the unique opportunity to make promotion videos, online adverts and in-person leaflets for several small businesses, where I successfully increased the demand for their brand. Through both experiences, I developed my creativity skills and my strategic thinking ability in how one should build up the public’s anticipations of an event or brand. Additionally, I organised multiple fundraising events to raise money for a charity in Sri Lanka, where I overcame many challenges, enhancing my problem-solving skills and communication skills
By following the surgical society’s Instagram for a while, I love how the marketing is conducted. However, some suggestions that I had for future improvements include:
- Posting more on the surgical society Instagram, through the use of teasers and promotion videos to unveil the announcement of upcoming conferences, which would aid in building up awareness of these conferences, while also increasing awareness of upcoming events
- Making more vibrant and stand-out posters to put around campus to increase the audience of people who see the poster, and thus are encouraged to attend surgical society events
- Collaborating with other universities to increase range of awareness for our events, making the target audience larger, allowing for the conference to expand to a national, or international range
