Hello all, I'm River from Singapore
I'm aiming to be your Year 1 Academic representative cause I wanted to give you the option of electing a more grounded representative. A representative that not only experiences and is vocal about issues you face, but takes each issue to heart, and suggests even radical changes to address said issues. In the same spirit, I also believe that being a professor teaching us the most recent and advanced knowledge in civil engineering is no easy feat. Therefore, I do think that the academic representative is not only someone who represents students but is the bridge between both students and professors, ensuring that both achieve the results we deserve without detriment to one another.
The results that I wish we can achieve together this year are:
- Increased confidence in our expertise of being civil engineers (realistically we all pass)
- Increased certainty in our future career choice
- Making learning materials in our course more accessible to other methods of learning to suit everyone's unique strengths
- And of course, resolving any issues you have with how content is presented in the course, meeting deadlines etc
Strengths that make me suited for the role:
Empathetic, Enthusiastic for the job, Experience as a teacher from the army and clubs in school, Patient, open to meeting new people & entertaining new ideas
Weaknesses:
I occasionally think I'm funny and at times unfocused. I also tend to forget people's names.
